Linzer Hearts

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are spending the day with people you love. This morning I woke up in the mood to bake and felt the like making cookies. I love a good shortbread cookie and discovered a recipe for traditional linzer cookies and I decided to make ones with hearts. How are you spending your Valentine’s Day?

Linzer Cookies Linzer Cookies with Powdered Sugar

Linzer Heart Cookies
  1. 2.5 SticksĀ of Butter
  2. 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  3. 1/2 cups of light brown sugar
  4. 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  5. 2 large egg yolks
  6. 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  7. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  8. 3 1/3 cups of all-purpose flour
  9. Strawberry Preserves with Champagne

  1. In a mixer, on a medium speed beat egg, sugar, butter, salt together until creamy. Slowly add in flour on a lower speed until you have a smooth batter.

  2. On wax paper, sprinkle a little powdered sugar. Roll out cookie dough onto paper and form a big ball with your hands. Allow dough to chill for 2 hours or overnight in refrigerator. Divide dough into four parts. Roll out each part on a powdered sugar surface until flat. Make sure your dough is about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  4. Using your round cookie cutter, cut out the dough into circles. Cut hearts into half of the cookie cutouts.
  5. Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Allow them to cool at room temperature. Once they have cooled spread strawberry jam onto the the sides that don't have the hearts. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the sides with the hearts. Press both sides together.
