ammazza Around Atlanta: Ammazza

Last week I had a chance to visit a new restaurant in Atlanta’s Fourth Ward neighborhood called Ammazza. Ammazza specializes in making Napoletana-style pizzas. The restaurant makes its own dough and mozzarella cheese from scratch and uses all local ingredients for their pizza.

I may say the owners paid great attention to detail when thinking about opening this place. They gutted out the entire building and designed the interior to compliment its original architecture. The tables, bar, and lighting are hand-crafted and designed by the owners.

The local pizzeria caters to the young and old. The night that I visited happen to be the neighborhood’s family night, when I walked in the restaurant it was filled with kids and their parents but we knew they wouldn’t be their long because it was getting late. After they cleared out, the older crowd came in. The restaurant currently has beer and wine on tap, along with a regular beer and wine menu. They also just launched their new cocktail menu. .

My friend Alicia and I both ordered a glass of wine to start off our night. I got a glass their Secret White Wine Blend and she ordered a Pinot Noir.  We also ordered one of their most popular appetizers, the caprese salad. The caprese salad is layered and is severed on a plate. It’s the perfect portion to share!

Next, we decided to split a pizza and try one of their veggie pizza. So we ordered the Terra, a white pizza with homemade mozzarella, goat cheese, basil, and truffle oil and wild mushrooms. It was amazing! You could smell the truffle oil as soon as the pizza arrived to the table and the combination of flavors of ingredients were well balanced. The portions are pretty so I’m glad we share because we had enough for lunch the next day.

We ended the evening with one of the owners favorite desserts, Asta Fritta Con Connella, a fried dough tossed in cinnamon and sugar.
