Last week I was invited to try Ra Sushi’s new menu items. This is one of my favorite places to grab sushi and drinks after hours. This place is always hustling and bustling after work for happy hour.
The evening started out with a cocktail or glass of wine of my choice. I chose to try a glass of California Plum Wine. The wine paired perfectly with all of the dishes served to us that evening. Our first course was an appetizer trio that included a Edamame Dip, Bonfire Shrimp, and Garlic Edamame. I immediately fell in love with the edamame dip and can’t wait to duplicate this dish at home. If you are looking for a little heat to start out the night out then the garlic edamame is perfect for you! I thought they would have an overwhelming taste of garlic but it actually had the opposite effect. Once you take a bite of this appetizer you may be reaching for a glass of water. The edamame is seasoned with garlic and Asian seasonings but it has a spicy aftertaste.
For our next course we had three varieties of Crispy Asian Tacos: A Spicy Salmon, a “RA” ckin Shimp, and a Chicken. I loved the Salmon one the best! The taco shell is made of fried rice paper stuffed with sashimi grade salmon, lettuce, and guacamole. I would love to try to make this at home with rice paper and salmon!
For my entree I was served a tasting plate that consisted of Salmon with Green Beans, Black Pepper Teriyaki Asian Chicken Wings, Chili Ponzu Asian Chicken Wings, and Drunken Black Mussels. I usually don’t like spicy foods but their chili ponzu chicken wings were amazing. They are fried to a crisp and dipped in a chili ponzu sauce. I also really enjoyed the Drunken Black Mussels which are steamed in a sake broth and seasoned with soy sauce.
By this time I was stuffed but couldn’t resist a glass of Moscato and dessert. For dessert we tried Mochi ice cream, a traditional Japanese treat. The Mochi tasted just like angel food cake. It was very light and delicious. The perfect way to end a great evening!
Ra Sushi has locations all over the United States so make sure to visit one near you to try their new menu!
I haven’t tried Ra, even though I’ve passed it a gazillion times! I’ll suggest this for my next happy hour spot.
